What’s New in the PTS (Updated June 16)

Latest PTS Update (June 16)

We just released a new patch for the PTS that brought Legendary Perks back to the PTS with a few quality-of-life improvements, and included a number of bug fixes.

Legendary Perks Return to PTS

We’ve re-enabled Legendary Perks in the PTS with today’s update, and you should once again be able to play test with them. We’ve also made a couple of quality-of-life changes to the Legendary Perk system:

  • Legendary Perk Swapping: You can now unequip your Legendary Perk Cards at any time in exchange for a very small number of Perk Coins, instead of having to wait until you unlock a new Legendary Perk Slot.
  • Legendary Perk Slots: You can now save your Legendary Perk selections even if you still have Legendary Perk Slots that are empty.

Art & Animation

  • Nukes: Explosion and blast zone visual effects now animate properly and no longer stop playing after launching a nuke.

Items

  • Plasma Caster: Players now correctly learn to craft Ultracite Plasma Ammo after learning the Prime Receiver Plan for the Plasma Caster.

Legendary Perks

  • Brawling Chemist: Rank 4 of Brawling Chemist no longer awards more Super Chems over time than intended.

Quests and Events

  • A Colossal Problem: Fixed an issue that could cause high-level characters to receive low level Cursed items from the event.
  • A Colossal Problem: Getting hit by the drill inside Monongah Mine no longer causes the screen to flash white.
  • A Colossal Problem: Fixed an issue that could cause players to receive multiple Pocket Watches by completing the event multiple times.
  • Secrets Revealed: Fixed an issue that could cause A.C. to become unresponsive under specific circumstances, which blocked quest progression.
  • Something Sentimental: Players no longer need to stand right next to Maggie in order to cause Something Sentimental to start.

Stability & Performance

  • Loading: Addressed an issue that could result in an infinite loading screen when transitioning into or out of Monongah Mine during A Colossal Problem.
  • Server Stability: Addressed an issue that could cause a server crash during normal gameplay.

User Interface

  • Help Menu: Added instructions for Public Teams to the game’s Help Menu.
  • Legendary Perks: Fixed an issue that could prevent players from scrolling through their available Legendary Perks after equipping the farthest Perk to the right.
  • Map: Fixed an issue preventing players from opening the Map while using Furniture, like beds and instruments.
  • Public Teams: Decreased the size of Public Teams notifications based on community feedback that they were too large.
  • Public Teams: Decreased the size of Public Team Leader nameplates when the Leader is at a distance based on community feedback that the nameplates were taking up too much screen space for teammates.
  • Public Teams: While on a Public Team, teammates can no longer open locked doors or containers at each other’s C.A.M.P.s.
  • Public Teams: If a Public Team fills up as another player is attempting to join it, they will now receive an error message that the team is already full.
  • Public Teams: Fixed an issue that prevented players from switching to a different Public Team when their current Public Team was full.
  • Public Teams: Normal teams that are converted into Public Teams now correctly show Public Team UI elements.
  • Public Teams: If a teammate is disconnected for being AFK too long, they will now be correctly removed from their Public Team.
  • Public Teams: Fixed an issue that could cause Bond progress meters to visually restart.
  • Public Teams: Players can no longer join Public Teams prior to leaving Vault 76.
  • Play with Team: Fixed an issue that could result in a blank screen when leaving the “Searching for World” queue after choosing “Play with Team” from the Main Menu.

Sound

  • Public Teams: Added sound effects that play when interacting with Public Teams menus.

World

  • Monongah Mine: Fixed multiple locations where players could become stuck during the event “A Colossal Problem.”

FALLOUT 76: INSIDE THE VAULT – JUNE UPDATES

Welcome back to Inside the Vault! Following feedback and bug reports from players in the Public Test Server, we’re making adjustments to some of our plans for Update 20. We’ve also got details for you on a new Purveyor Mystery Pick event that starts today.

UPDATE 20 FEATURE ADJUSTMENTS

A couple of weeks ago, we re-opened the Public Test Server (PTS) so that all Bethesda.net PC players could try out new features coming with Update 20, like Legendary Perks, Public Teams, and the new event, “A Colossal Problem.” Since then, we’ve been happy to see the community share so many thoughts about these additions. We’re going to keep working on “A Colossal Problem” and Legendary Perks in order to respond to your feedback and make improvements. We’re now aiming to launch them in a patch after Update 20, but the timing will depend on the depth of changes and the time it takes to make them.

WHAT’S MOVING?

We have been actively reading through all of the Legendary Perks feedback the community has shared with us so far, and we agree that there are areas we can improve. We’ve decided to shift this feature so that we have more time to review the current Legendary Perk system, make changes, perform testing, and ask you for additional feedback in a future iteration of the PTS. As a preview, some of the improvements we’re currently working on will allow you to swap Legendary Perks in and out at any time in exchange for a few Perk Coins, as well as save your Legendary Perk selections even if you haven’t filled all of your available slots. We are also looking into creating new Legendary Perks and changing some existing ones based on community discussions.

As mentioned above, we’re also planning to move “A Colossal Problem” to a future patch. Even though the event is working well and feedback from PTS players has been mostly positive, this will give us more time to perform additional internal testing, make performance improvements, and add another layer of polish to make sure the event is completely ready for release.

WHAT’S STAYING?

The Public Teams system is an addition that we’re excited to bring to the game, and we’re happy to let you know that it’s still on track for Update 20. Public Teams are going to make it easier than ever to group up with other players and get a bonus depending on your team’s current in-game goals. If you haven’t had the chance to check out Public Teams in the PTS, don’t worry. We’re going to share an in-depth preview of that system with you in the coming weeks.

Additionally, we’re still planning to implement 76 Seasons in Update 20, and Season 1 is set to begin for everyone on patch day. We took a detailed look at the Seasons system in May, and we’re going to dive deeper into Season 1 itself a little later this month. Keep an eye on Fallout.com for those details, because we will also reveal many more of the rewards that will be up for grabs.

Thank you very much to all of our PTS players for everything you’ve shared with us about Update 20 so far. It is largely due to your feedback that we’ve decided to make adjustments to Legendary Perks and “A Colossal Problem.” We know everyone is excited for these features, and while delays are not ideal, we want to make sure our implementation of both “A Colossal Problem” and Legendary Perks match that excitement. We’re also looking into releasing upcoming patches earlier in the PTS going forward to allow for more feedback and iteration.

If you own a PC copy of Fallout 76 through Bethesda.net, you can still try out “A Colossal Problem” and Public Teams in the PTS right now. Legendary Perks are disabled in the PTS at the moment, but we are aiming to bring them back in a future PTS update. Join us for some play testing and then let us know what you think in the Fallout 76 PTS forum.
